“It’s good to get a chance to see a Club that has it all together already,” said Keller. “It’s good to interact with the kids, see what they’re doing. I’m really excited about what’s happening.”
“She’s been great,” said Treber of her “helper” for the time being. “Whenever you get any new staff and stick them in with 100 kids it can be a little overwhelming at first – but she really fits in nicely.”
A native of Bremen, Kel-ler graduated in 2005 from Bremen High School and continued her education at Indiana Wesleyan Univer-sity. She received a degree in elementary education last year. She has been a fixture at the Bremen outdoor public pool and is the director of the facility. Her mother, Ann, works for Bremen Public Schools.
“I always wanted to work with kids,” she said. “Kids have always been a part of my life. Mom helps out Dan Shuppert with the ‘After-noon Rocks’ (anti-drug, alcohol, and self esteem) program so I’ve always been around kids and kids’ programs.”
The Bremen Club will begin taking registrations for membership during school sign up, Thursday Aug. 13 from noon to 6 p.m. and again from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Aug. 14. Cost for a year’s membership in the Club will be $50 and the membership is “reciprocal” with the Club in Plymouth (Bremen members will be able to take part in the Plymouth Club programs as well).
The home base for the Bremen Boys & Girls Club will be the Bremen Elementary School Cafeteria and will use various school athletic and academic facilities such as the computer lab and the swimming pool when they are not in use by school activities.
“The Bremen School Corporation has been incredible to work with for this program,” said Treber. “They welcomed us with open arms and have really bent over backwards to help make this a success. I can’t say enough about their help.”
The Bremen Boys & Girls Club will be in operation when school is in session. When school is out, members will be welcome at the Plymouth Club.
Ribbon cutting for the facility will be Aug. 18.
“I really can’t say how excited I am to be able to establish a Boys & Girls Club in the Bremen community,” said Keller. “I grew up without this program in Bremen and it’s really good to be able to bring something like this here that’s going to do so much for the kids in Bremen.”
