By Angel Perkins News-Mirror Editor Burglaries The Bourbon Police Department is asking the public to report any information they may have in regard to several crimes recently committed. Five vehicles were broken into at the Triton Jr. Sr. High School parking lot on Wednesday, Feb. 28, between 8 a.m. and noon. Stereos, speakers, amplifiers and other personal belongings were removed. The amount of merchandise stolen is estimated to be in excess of $3,000. Bourbon Police Chief John West explained that they are currently investigating several leads but are open to any other information anyone has to offer in regard to the thefts.
Abduction attempt On Monday, March 12 at approximately 4 p.m. a potential child abduction occurred in Bourbon. Three female children were reportedly walking through the neighborhood and two split from the group. The girl, a first grader at Triton Elementary School, said that she was left alone at an area north of Washington and south of Jefferson streets when a tall man, believed to be of medium build, stepped out of a vehicle described as being a white, older model Ford Explorer. She said there was a medium-sized black and white dog in the vehicle at the time of the attempted abduction. The girl reported that the man was wearing black pants and a black, long-sleeved shirt. She said he also wore a black ski mask over his face. The man allegedly grabbed the girl’s backpack that she wore and tugged at her. She began to scream and run. The man then went back to his vehicle and left the scene. A woman near Washington Street reported to police that she had seen a similar vehicle repeatedly passing her property earlier in the day. There had been small children in the woman’s yard at the time. Off-duty Bourbon Police Officer Ed Ashcraft said he had been picking up his children at the back of Triton Elementary School at Thayer Street at the end of the school day and reported later that he had noticed a vehicle, matching the description of the vehicle in the later attempted abduction, near the back of the school at the time. The Bourbon Police Department is asking that anyone with any information in regard to any of these or any other crimes to please come forward and contact them in person or by phone at 342-3105.
