Bikers riding for the Red Cross Saturday E-mail
Friday, 31 July 2009
By Rusty Nixon Correspondent
PLYMOUTH — For a third year, the Marshall/Fulton Red Cross will be riding for a cause.
A motorcycle ride to raise money for disaster relief services of the Red Cross will leave from C.J. Chrome and Cycle, north of Plymouth, and make its way around both Marshall and Fulton Counties in a one day, 75-mile ride Saturday.
“This is our third time and it just keeps getting bigger and better,” said James Hale, Marshall/Fulton Red Cross director. “I used to love to ride, but I can’t anymore after a car accident. My wife jokes that I might fall apart on the road if I rode again. I still love to be involved and our volunteers love to participate because it’s just such a fun event.”
Registration starts at 11 a.m. Saturday with the ride beginning at 1 p.m. The course will go north from C.J. Chrome and Cycle through Bremen, to Bourbon, Argos and Rochester before coming back through Culver and around Lake Maxinkuckee; then back to finish at the VFW post in Plymouth. A meal will be provided at the finish along with live music.
“Our band had a previous engagement we just found out about, but John and Janet (Galloway, owners of C.J. Chrome and Cycle) know a DJ who stepped up so there will be live music,” said Hale adding with a laugh. “Most of us know CPR so we’re sure we can probably keep him going for the whole party.”
Hale’s son Travis — just 14 years old — came up with the design for this year’s event T-shirt.
“It’s either art or music with him and this is really a neat design for the front of the shirt,” said Hale of Travis’ work. “We’ve got a lot of door prizes and all sorts of other things going on, too.”
You can get more information on the ride by calling C.J.’s Chrome and Cycle at 574-936-7733, or the Red Cross at 574-936-3928.
