DONALDSON — It’s been almost one year since Ancilla College introduced one of the newest members to its nursing program.
And since his June 30, 2009 welcome, he’s given students and local emergency personnel a level of hands-on training that far exceeds the established norm.
And he isn’t even human!

Cause of explosion, fire unknown E-mail
Thursday, 30 July 2009
By Rusty Nixon Correspondent
PLYMOUTH — The sound of an explosion shook some residents of 13th Road out of their beds early Wednesday morning and sent the Plymouth Fire Department on a 4:34 a.m. run to a garage owned by Don York.
“There was a little confusion in the initial traffic but there were reports of explosions from those in the area,” said Plymouth Fire Chief Andy Metsker of the early call. “It was nothing serious when we got there. The residents had the normal sorts of things you put in a garage — small five-gallon containers of gasoline and things of that sort. Nothing out of the ordinary.”
The garage was detached from the residence on the property owned by York and rented by Lynn Stayton. The home sustained no damage.
The Culver Fire Department assisted with an engine and tanker.
“There was nothing suspicious at all in the fire but the cause is undetermined,” said Metsker. “We know exactly where it started — the front of the garage area — but we have no definite source of ignition.”
