Publisher’s Pen By Rick Kreps Imagine a 160-page, hardback coffee table book containing more than 250 Marshall County photographs from your “younger” days. The book might contain: • A photo of your first Little League baseball team or Brownie group from the 1960s. • A photo of “the gang” from the sock hop during the 1950s. • An “album cover” photo of that garage rock band you put together in the 1970s. • That memorable slumber or swim party photo from the 1980s. • Personal backstage snapshots from your thespian debut in the school play from the 1990s. • Your pals and gal pals with your prized car in the 1940s. The Pilot News Group is ready to embark on a Marshall County community project that will produce just such a keepsake book.
Marshall County, Indiana Pictorial History 1945-95 Living History The people, places and times we lived . . . Above is the working title of the 160-page publication we intend to compile and produce during the coming weeks – and have available for holiday gift giving in December. We’ll be counting on Pilot News readers from throughout Marshall County to help us compile this unique, personalized book that will feature photos from the past 50 years. The book’s time frame begins in 1945 and ends in 1995 – which will make Living History a relevant book for anyone with Marshall County connections – and that should be just about everyone currently reading these words. The focus of the book will be “slice-of-life” type photos showing people in Marshall County places. The photos should be properly identified as to where it was taken, who is in it and approximately when it was taken. These are key elements. You’ll be reading a lot more about this special project within the week and how you can participate. For now, you might want to dig out that shoe box of snapshots, pull out the six or seven that are the best quality and properly identified – and get ready to become a party of Living History! ••••• The Pilot News Group staff has received many compliments during the past week on our news products – and an equal number of compliments for the outstanding advertising from local businesses. From our special coupon pages last Thursday to the Weekend’s three-section Pilot News – filled to the brim with Marshall County news and tons of advertisers’ specials, coupons and more – readers have offered us kudos for providing them a newspaper that makes their lives better. Knowledge of their community, help in making buying decisions – and some fun and entertainment – are what our readers want. We’re happy to provide quality community journalism and the perfect forum for businesses to connect with nearly 15,000 Marshall County readers each and every day. We appreciate our readers, our advertising business partners and our county community. Thanks for reading your Pilot News! Rick Kreps is publisher of The Pilot News Group of newspapers.
