Bridge busters invade Purdue University

More than 20 Plymouth High School students competed at the 33rd annual ASCE Bridge Bust Competition at Purdue University earlier this month. There were 11 schools that brought teams to the competition for a total of 66 bridges.

Shawn Mark edges Dave Marrow to win at Winona Lake E-mail

WARSAW — Shawn Mark of Bourbon took first place over Dave Marrow of Knox to win the MARCO Bass Masters tournament at Winona Lake in Warsaw.
 The contest was close.
Both Mark and Marrow brought five fish limits to the scales but Mark’s total weight was 11.57 pounds which narrowly edged Marrow’s 11.28 pounds. Joshua Yeazel of Plymouth only had four bass but his 10.22-pound bag, anchored by a 4.71-pound large mouth that was the largest of the tournament, was good enough for third place. John Barlow of Knox was fourth with a five fish limit weighing 9.92 pounds, while Bremen’s Gale Miller rounded out the top five with 9.72 pounds.

Robert Pereira from Schererville was sixth at Winona Lake with 7.73 pounds, Joshua Goins of Lapaz was seventh with 6.26 pounds, and Plymouth’s Rick Hite was eighth with 5.81 pounds.
While Hite still has a commanding lead in the Angler of the Year chase with 46.19 points, the Winona Lake tournament shook up the standings from second on back.
Marrow moved into second place with 37.07 points, Marcus Courtney of Rochester fell to third with 33.13 points, Shawn Mark jumped from 10th to fourth with 27.26 points, while Brian McNeal remains in fifth place with 23.33 points. Yeazel jumped six places to move into the sixth place with 23.33 points. Pereira has 23.27 points, which moved him into seventh place and Argos’ Bruce Pearson hung onto eighth place with 23.24 points. Rounding out the top 10 are Barlow with 20.71 points and Brian Mitchel of Nappanee with 19.78 points.
