Ms. Twiggy needs an angel... now! E-mail

Ms. Twiggy needs an angel to help her get back to her former trim self as soon as possible. The stray from the Bourbon area has been at the Marshall County Humane Society for about a week now and needs to drop the pounds in order to have surgery to remove tumors and growths. She’s a happy girl, otherwise, and the staff hopes someone out there can help soon. Photo provided

By Anita Munson Staff Writer
PLYMOUTH — Can anyone help a girl who needs to shed 50 to 60 pounds before she can have some tumors and fatty growths removed to save her life?
That’s the question the staff at the Marshall County Humane Society is asking area residents on behalf of a beautiful big girl dubbed “Ms. Twiggy.”

Ms. Twiggy is a friendly Lab who loves to be rubbed and will, teasingly, head-butt you if you stop too soon to her liking. But she is morbidly obese, in need of regular exercise, and she needs surgery, too.
Nancy Cox, Humane Society executive director, said the friendly four-legged gal was a stray picked up in the Bourbon area. She’s been at the Marshall County Humane Society for about a week now.
“And you can tell she never, ever missed a meal,” Cox  said. “But she’s pretty frisky, and so sweet. In the right hands, she could really blossom into a wonderful family pet.”
Cox said calls to area veterinarians’ offices not only have not turned up the dog’s owner, but also brought the news that it would be unwise to remove the growths and tumors until the dog has lost a lot of weight. Cox said, “She’s a happy girl who just needs some love.”
“So, we’re looking for an angel out there,” the director explained of attempts to find a home — or the rightful owner — that will help Ms. Twiggy slim down and tone up in preparation for surgery. “She’s such a good, nice dog. She’s just super, and this is just a shame.”
If you can help with Ms. Twiggy’s predicament and can come to the aid of this helpless canine call Cox and the staff at the shelter, 11165 13th Road, at 574-936-8300, as soon as possible.
