BREMEN — Who is the next Bremen Idol? You can find out at the Bremen Fireman’s Festival Thursday, as the Chamber of Commerce hosts the second Karaoke Contest at the North building at the fairgrounds (Sunnyside Park). Contestants can drop by anytime before 6 p.m. to sign up. There is no cover charge and contestants will get the chance to sing one song for the panel of judges.
Contestants can bring their own CDs or choose from those provided. Contestants of any age will be competing for a chance at Bremen Bucks, an opportunity to sing the National Anthem at Coveleski Stadium before a Silver Hawks game and the most entertaining performer will receive their own karaoke machine.
“Last year, there were so many entertaining songs and contestants that we have created a ‘best-in-show’ award,” said Trent Miles of the Bremen Chamber of Commerce. “There are some amazing singers that come out for this event, but it is the funny or entertaining contestants that are the life of the contest. We felt it necessary to honor these fine individuals who are in a league of their own.” There is no age restriction to sing, and the contest brings out a wide range of singers.
“Last year the youngest was about 14 and the oldest was 60, but the contest is open to all ages,” said Miles.
This is the second year that the Chamber has sponsored the event and feels that such outlets are essential to the community.
“As a chamber, we find the value of supporting our local businesses and organizations. We believe part of that effort must be met by cultivating community prosperity,” said Miles. “The Karaoke Contest is meant to provide an economical and family friendly form of entertainment for local residence and surrounding communities. This is especially important in a struggling economy.”
If last year is any indication, this year’s event should provide a great amount of family fun.
“Last year we had a great turnout. More than 30 people participated in the contest and the facility was overflowing with observ-ers,” said Miles. “Contest-ants ranged from the occasional car singer to karaoke fanatics to jaw dropping vocalists. I think it is important to note that this contest is open to everyone of all ages. There are some people who travel around the state competing in these things and there are some people that just come to have a good time. Everyone is welcome, serious or not. We are just out to have a good time, offer some quality entertainment for our community, and laugh. A lot.”
