First H1N1 clinic moves smoothly

Nurse Barb White administers a shot to a brave Jacob Deacon, who didn’t flinch when accepting the H1N1 vaccine at Washington Elementary School Thursday. Pilot photos/Maggie Nixon

By Rusty Nixon Correspondent
PLYMOUTH — For most it is a strange sight to see. Literally hundreds of children, lined up down the block from an elementary school hoping to get a shot.
That was the unlikely scene at Washington School in Plymouth last night as The Marshall County Health Department held its first H1N1 flu shot clinic. In spite of the large numbers that turned out and the trickle of vaccine into the county, the department didn’t have to turn anyone away. Everyone who came received an inoculation.

PLYMOUTH — Local supporters wasted no time in fulfilling a special request by a former Plymouth High School “Rockies” football player, David Campbell.
Campbell is currently serving in the military (Task Force Hammer) in Afghanistan.

Campbell wrote to John Barron, PHS football coach, asking for a PHS or Rockies flag that he could fly to remind him of home.
Barron — along with the “team mom” Lori Day — was able to purchase a flag through fundraising money.
They also contacted Linda Jacobson through the FOP for help. Jacobson was instrumental in putting together a “goodies” box for Campbell as well.
Barron said during his career on the team, Campbell was an extremely hard worker, very focused, and team oriented.
“He was a leader for us. David made the most of his ability,” Barron said.
