By Sharon Hollar Correspondent The Etna Green Town Council met June 9 in the town hall meeting room. Vice president Keith Claassen presided over the meeting in the absence of president Todd Slabaugh. The council needs to propose the EDIT resolution at the July meeting for the county. Monthly deposits have been made in the area of $40,000 for the year.
It has been brought to the town’s attention that the retainer wall of railroad ties placed in 1985 at the town hall are in need of replacement or reinforcement or considering a different type in the near future. The office of clerk-treasurer will be conducting a food drive during office hours to help replenish the community food store at the Church of Christ. The council voted to use $200 from the Promotion Fund to help purchase vouchers for eggs, bread and milk from the Freedom Express mini-mart. August 1 they will collect school supplies from a list of needed items for community needs for the Little Lambs Preschool and students at Triton school. Robin Claassen will be conducting the census count of community residents at the registration in August at the Triton school. Depending on the approval of the State Board of Accounts, work on power washing, tuck pointing and sealant at the Heritage Park by Gottschalk’s who recently did a nice job on the town hall will determine the date the work can be scheduled. Further discussion on global warming and climate conditions was tabled. Due to low attendance and lack of volunteers Eileen Hall and Laura Baker have cancelled the Old Fashioned Daze normally held in September. Heather Barron, the new director of the Bourbon Public Library, introduced herself and thanked the council for the donations to the summer program in session at the library. She urged residents that have not obtained a library card and would use one to do so soon. The fee is covered by the township trustee. She left survey sheets with the clerk-treasurer for questions and comments on what you would like to see at the library. These need to be filled out and returned by July 4. John Julien of Umbaugh and Associates of Plymouth discussed cash flow, loans and gave some ideas on adjustments in the near future. He decided it would be best to have the town employees make a list of equipment needed to run the wastewater plant, noting cost and replacement cost and etc. He will then have a report prepared for the Aug. 11 council meeting. Richard Long, president of the Etna Green Museum Committee announced the committee will be hosting a bake sale Friday, July 10 at the Heritage Park community building during the Church of Christ softball team/junior and senior high youth group, all-you-can-eat tenderloin and fish fry. At a later date they are considering a chicken barbecue. The council approved Peerless Midwest to replace a radio needed to notify problems on the water tower. Councilman Jim Robbins is to have information on the Energy Effective Program for the July meeting. The next town council meeting will be held at 7 p.m. July 14 in the town hall meeting room. Residents are welcomed to attend.
