By Mandy McFarland Editor WAKARUSA — America's pastime became Wakarusa's pastime last Saturday, June 20 at Memorial Park for the annual America at the Ballpark. At 5 p.m. the Pee-Wees took on the Moms, followed by the Preschool All-Stars at 6:15 p.m. The Junior/Senior girls competed against their dads at 7:30 p.m. and the Wakarusa and Nappanee Emergency Services competed at 8:30 p.m..
A special program took place to honor the memories of Wakarusa residents Army Staff Sergeant Travis Hunsberger, Wakarusa Elementary School nurse Diane Brown and Lisa Lengacher. All three had ties to the Wakarusa baseball program. Family and close friends gathered on the field for a special memorial ceremony. Then, veterans were invited out on the field for a singing of "The Star-Spangled Banner." The program closed with the traditional fireworks at dusk.
