Crossroads Task Force ready to make recommendations E-mail
Thursday, 25 June 2009
By Rusty Nixon Correspondent
PLYMOUTH — The Crossroads Task Force is ready to present its findings to Mayor Mark Senter and Plymouth’s City Council.
The Task Force was brought together to address concerns brought to the mayor’s office about Ply-mouth being a difficult place for developers and those wishing to start new business. The panel made up of local businessmen Ed DeMont of Pilgrim Capital, Dave Morrow of Morrow Insurance and Dave Miller of Vanco Development, along with City Attorney Nelson Chipman, were empowered to look into the way people do business with the city government.
“I have to say that I was very encouraged that the Mayor assembled this task force to actually take a look at things that could impact the economic development of the city,” said Miller. “We brought in experts and looked at a lot of different issues. I hope the Council will give it good consideration.”
DeMont concurred.
“It’s really up to the Council now to digest a lot of the data that we’ve gathered in the report,” he said. “I hope they’ll pay attention to detail and do their homework and I really think we can do a lot to improve the things in the report.”
Morrow felt like the committee’s work was also a learning process.
“I know personally it was an education on the process that developers have to go through,” he said. “I feel like this is a good start.”
“I know a lot of this started with the debate over tap fees, but when we compared we found that ours were really lower when compared with other communities,” said Chipman. “How to capitalize those fees became the question.”
The group will present their report to the mayor and the Council after final revisions were made in a Wednesday evening meeting. Overall the group says it was in agreement on most of the reports points.
“We’d set it down and there was a real willingness to modify,” said Chipman. “It was a pleasure to serve on this committee.”
The report will be released Thursday evening.
