By Mandy McFarland Staff Writer BREMEN – Bremen residents awoke yesterday morning to find their power out and limbs down everywhere after severe weather moved through the area.
According to National Weather Service Forecaster BJ Simpson, most of the damage was the result of straight-line winds of anywhere from 60 to 70 miles per hour. Simpson said a squall line blew through the area at around 4:40 a.m., instantly knocking out power to most of the town. Most of the damage to the area included trees and power lines, but some of it was far worse. Workers at Bremen Ford arrived to find most of their showroom windows blown out and water everywhere. However, there was no damage to any of their vehicles. The Bremen Chevrolet-Buick dealership found a hole in the rear window of one of their delivery vans, but no evidence as to what might have caused the damage. In other parts of town, siding and shingles were damaged, and a section of the fence along the Grandview South subdivision was destroyed. Simpson said the National Weather Service was ready to act as soon as the storms appeared on their radar. “We had the warnings out well in advance of the actual damage,” he said. Simpson said more storms were moving in and were projected to hit later that afternoon. The National Weather Service had issued a tornado watch for Marshall County and the surrounding area from 10:47 a.m. until around 6 p.m.
