CULVER — Culver Elementary School played host to the 25th annual Marshall County Young Author’s Conference Thursday night and marked the occasion with a visit from award-winning children’s author Carolyn Crimi.
Crimi shared time with students at the school before a private book signing and “meet and greet” with winners in the conference’s annual student writing contest, and gave an address to parents and students in the school’s recently-renovated gymnasium.

A sign of summer: Street projects ready to begin E-mail
Wednesday, 17 June 2009
By Rusty Nixon Correspondent
PLYMOUTH — Once again this summer road crews will be hard at work with the city of Plymouth’s annual street repair projects.
“We go through and look at all the roads and we put them on a scale,” said Street Department Superintendent Jim Marquardt. “We look at the shape the road is in. Some of them may not be in terrible shape, but we also factor in the amount of traffic that each street has.”
Marquardt hopes that work can begin on the projects soon.
“Hopefully we can get underway by mid-summer,” he said. “We have to look at everything and get them out to bid and then there’s usually a 60- to 90-day window. Usually we try to finish before Thanksgiving when the (asphalt) plants close.”
Crews will be taking on a patch of North Oak Road again this year. They will mill and pave North Oak Road between the proposed end of the Oak Road Improvements project and last year’s North Oak Road Patch Project. There will be no concrete placement on this project.
Crews will reconstruct Hillcrest from the intersection with Oak to 350 feet to the west.  The project will include asphalt removal and placement, asphalt mill and pave concrete curb and gutter, inlet, and drainage culvert.
Lincolnway East will also see repaving from the Jefferson Street intersection to the city’s corporate limits. The project will be split into three 1,200-foot sections. The project will include asphalt mill and repaving, sidewalk repairs, new sidewalk and curb ramps.
This will be a very large project for the city.
“It’s broken down into three sections and we’ll bid all three of them out to see what we can get done for the money,” said Marquardt.
“We’ll prioritize it from there.”
