Photo by Mandy McFarland The Bremen High School class of 2009 entered the school Sunday afternoon, June 7 for the last time as students, and emerged as graduates, ready to face whatever the future has in store for them.
In his valedictorian speech, Eric Zeltwanger encouraged his fellow graduates to consider the three "F's" of life: Faith, family and friends. Of faith, he said: "Without faith, our journey through life will fall short of its real potential'" of family: "Place an emphasis on family and make it a priority to see your family succeed;" of friends: "Through everything, our friendships will triumph." Addressing her fellow graduates as salutatorian, Shannon Sickelka used driver's education as an illustration for graduation, achieving a driver's license as an illustration for graduating, and a long drive to show the journey through life. "What am I going to be when I grow up?" she said, "I have no idea ... (but) I'm going on a road trip and I'm going to keep going until I find the exit with my name on it." Special music included "The Star-Spangled Banner" and "I'll Be There," performed by the BHS Swing Choir, "There You'll Be" performed by Christina Talley and "I Will Be Your Friend" performed by Kristina Borkholder, with Matthew Lockwood on the piano. Austin Nielsen presented the class donation to school board president Jack Jordan.
