By Rusty Nixon Correspondent PLYMOUTH — Electrical problems could hold up completion of the new county jail. Commissioner Tom Chamberlin reported that completion of electrical wiring in the new facility remains at least two weeks behind schedule, and that has other contractors rescheduling other parts of construction. Colip Electric of South Bend is the contractor for the work, and did not realize that the wiring that was delivered for use in the ceiling areas was not the right type for the work until after beginning the wiring. The long lead time for re-ordering set the project back. In spite of urging from the county, Colip has not supplied extra man power necessary to make up lost time.
The lack of wiring has set back security contractors who had hoped to be installing the delicate electronics necessary for operation. “We’re probably two to four weeks out on the electrician,” said Chamberlin. “We’ve been in contact with them trying to urge them to catch up.” Chamberlin and County Attorney Jim Clevenger also said that discussions were underway to seek monetary remedy if necessary including withholding partial payment. In other news The commissioners did not hear second reading on an all terrain vehicle ordinance and an ordinance to collect fees for registering sex offenders. The change of meeting time was not announced at least a 48 hours previously so action was tabled on the measures to insure that the public was aware of the ordinances second reading. Bruce Wakeland came before the commissioners with a suggestion for the expansion of recreational use of the Marshall County Memorial Forest, on S.R. 17. Wakeland made several suggestions to the board on the possibility of expanding use of the area by the public.
