Pilot photo/Anita Munson The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) said construction is successfully continuing for a new 6th/Lilac Road bridge over U.S. 31.
Monday, four 125-foot, pre-stressed and pre-cast concrete beams (RIGHT) were placed above the U.S. 31 southbound lanes. Tuesday, four beams were placed above the northbound U.S. 31 lanes. The work is part of the Major Moves project that will construct a new U.S. 31 from Plymouth to South Bend. There are currently four active projects in the Plymouth to South Bend corridor, which is part of the larger Major Moves initiative to upgrade U.S. 31 to freeway standards from Indianapolis to South Bend. INDOT reminds motorists to use caution and consider worker safety when driving through a construction zone.
