By Rusty Nixon Correspondent PLYMOUTH — Firefighters and police officers and EMS personnel in the city of Plymouth will be honored in the city’s first Public Safety Day. The special ceremony on Saturday, May 30 will honor the city’s public servants starting at 10 a.m. at the Plymouth Fire Department.
“Obviously this goes back to my roots with the Indiana State Police,” said Plymouth Mayor Mark Senter in making the announcement of the special day. “We won’t have as big a ceremony as they have, but it was our way of starting out and recognizing those who risk their lives in service to the community every day.” Pastor’s Matt Pickut of the First United Methodist Church and Kerry O’Brien of Trinity will lead the ceremony that will also honor all those who have died in the line of duty. Featured speaker will be Indiana State Police Captain Bob Rich. Captain Rich’s brother, Detective Dave Rich, was shot and killed in the line of duty near Wabash, Indiana in July of 2007. After the ceremony coffee, juice and muffins will be provided to those who attend. “The family of Jim Nelson, a Plymouth Police officer who was killed in the line of duty, really got the ball rolling on this,” said Senter. “I’m glad to be able to do something to recognize all our police, fire and emergency medical personnel.”
