Pilot photo/Carol ANders By Carol Anders Correspondent PLYMOUTH — The words directed towards graduating seniors at the Plymouth High School Class of 2009 Baccalaureate Sunday by the various presenters aptly conveyed the theme for the program,: “Beat the Odds.” Senior Erin McNeil opened the program saying, “Two-hundred-and-nineteen students are going out into the world.”
Also a graduating senior, Kelsey Houin, read portions of scriptures from the Bible that targeted in on temptations. Pastor Matthew Pickut, First United Methodist Church, said, “You’re going to meet temptations and they are going to seem really good.” He added, “You have a chance to do so much more... be so much more..in a world that wants you to be so much less.” Robert Beck, of the Youth for Christ organization, echoed Pickut’s comments saying, “Statistics are truly negative. The odds are stacked against our youth.” Seniors Doug Booth, Bailey Capper, John Patrick, Zach Heet, Brittany Pedavoli, Calley Cook and Mae Christiansen presented a skit depicting some of the temptations that young people are facing in the world including alcohol addictions, craving for wealth, false affection, over concentration on work and worrying about outward appearances. Pastor Paul Hancy of the Plymouth Wesleyan Church cautioned the seniors to make “disciplined decisions.” He said, “Disciplined decisions will determine your destiny.” Senior Cassie Eberly closed the program with a benediction. Performing several musical numbers throughout the program were Nathan Aikins, Jon Glaub, Tyler Sutch, Sebastian Warrick and Parker Miller. All are either Plymouth High School graduates or seniors in this year’s class. Helping behind the scenes to help organize the Baccalaureate services were Riley Senter, Cailin Gomez, Joe Portteus, Megan Good, Hailey Hennessey, and Dana White.
