Calvin Hopple was the winner in a sixth-grade essay contest, “If I Were Mayor.” After his  essay was chosen, Calvin was invited to shadow Plymouth Mayor Mark Senter as “Mayor for a Day.”

All of the sixth grade students at Riverside Intermediate School participated in the statewide essay contest "If I Were Mayor" sponsored by the Indiana Association of Towns and Cities. The local contest was kicked off with a visit by Mayor Senter to Riverside. Local finalists were Kennedy Schnieders, Jacob LaFree, Abby Patrick, Katelyn O'Neal and Taylor Fulton. Calvin Hopple was the local winner and served as honorary "Mayor for the Day" alongside Senter. The finalists all toured the mayor's office, fire department and police department and appeared on the WTCA morning radio show. The state contest winners will be named in early June.
