PLYMOUTH — Washington Elementary School held its second annual “Rock On” Walk-a-Thon Friday.
“This year was bigger and better,” said Principal Michele Riise. “The Walk-a-Thon was designed to promote the school corporation’s wellness policy. Another purpose of the event is to raise money for our PTO, to help purchase Academic Spirit Day awards.”

Students had the opportunity to see one of the Plymouth Fire Depart-ment’s fire engine as well as the fire safety house, and a squad car and bicycle from the Plymouth Police Department.
The 31st MP Company, out of Plymouth, brought its inflatable obstacle course for the students to go through.
Jona Cartwright and her Health Occupation students from Plymouth, Triton, LaVille and Knox High Schools added a Health Fair to this year’s lineup of activities (See “health fair” photos in Monday’s Pilot News). Jana Lyon, from Jana’s Gymnastics, helped get the students moving with some aerobic activities and a DJ.
Each class was able to have fun with the outdoor activities for 20 minutes before participating in the indoor health fair.  Inside the health fair were stations the students visited, including a dental station, wheelchair and crutch races, first aid, hand washing, medication education, “Dum Dum” trivia and nutrition.
Riise said she’s thankful for all of the individuals, families and businesses who donated time, money and goods, and who helped out with the event.
