The Plymouth softball team dropped a pair of games Wednesday to Northern Lakes Conference leader Elkhart Memorial, dropping the regularly scheduled game 5-0 and getting bombed 12-2 in five innings in game two, a makeup from an April 20 rainout. In the opener, Plymouth couldn’t find any offense against Memorial’s Callie Selner, only mustering two hits, a single in the third by Mary Byelick and a seventh-inning double by Kelsey Hartman.
In game two, back-to-back triples by Marissa Sullivan and Byelick followed by a double from Lyzz Smith to give Plymouth a 2-0 advantage in the top of the first, but Memorial stormed back in the bottom of the inning to score five on four hits, a walk and a Plymouth error. The Plymouth bats, except for Byelick who added a pair of singles to her first-inning three-bagger, then went silent again, while the hit parade was on for Memorial, as the Chargers knocked out nine more hits in the second and third frames to put seven more runs on the board. Plymouth next takes on Concord at home in another NLC matchup on Friday. • ELKHART MEMORIAL 5, PLYMOUTH 0 At Plymouth Elk.
