The Plymouth softball team suffered yet another late-inning defeat, dropping a 2-1, eight-inning decision to Goshen Tuesday. The Lady Pilgrims broke into the scoring column first in the fourth when Emilee Keilman doubled home Marissa Sullivan.
Plymouth shut down several scoring threats early in the game as Goshen stranded seven baserunners in the first three innings. However, after Plymouth’s run in the fourth, Goshen finally broke through to tie it in the top of the fifth on a one-out bases-loaded single by Emily Kerns. Plymouth had a chance to win it in the bottom of the seventh after a walk and a sacrifice put pinch-runner Ashleah Wheat in scoring position, but a strikeout ended the scoring chance and moved the game into extra innings. Goshen put the eventual winning run up in the eighth as Kaitlyn Troyer led off with a double, stole third and then scored on a hard grounder that the Plymouth infield couldn’t handle. Plymouth travels to Wawasee today looking to break a six-game skid and pick up its first NLC win. • GOSHEN 2, PLYMOUTH 1 (8 innings) At Plymouth Goshen: 000 010 01 — 2 8 0 Plymouth: 000 100 00 1 1 3 Natalie Newell (P) and Kaitlyn Troyer Marissa Sullivan (L) and Emilee Keilman 2B: Keilman, Troyer 3B: Cassie Cook (G) Records: Plymouth 4-10 (0-3 NLC)
