Tough start to Charger home stand E-mail
Sunday, 26 April 2009
DONALDSON — After an 0-4 road trip, home hasn’t been such a friendly place for Ancilla’s Chargers as they dropped a pair of conference doubleheaders, falling to Lake Michigan College on Thursday by scores of 10-8 and 6-4, and dropping a Friday night twin bill to Jackson Community College by finals of 13-8 and 17-6.
Chuck Bowen (John Glenn High School) took the loss in game one of the home stand opener with LMC in relief of Ryan Vrana (South Bend Adams High School), who went five innings striking out 6 and walking three. Dylan Brammer (Mishawaka Marian High School) hit a grand slam in the fourth to put the Chargers ahead but they could not hold the lead. Matt Bova (Indianapolis Roncalli High School) had a pair of hits and Alex Smith (Northwestern High School) had a triple and a pair of RBI’s.
Taylor Harper (Rockville High School) went the distance in game two to get the loss striking out four and walking just two. Brammer was 4 for 4 with a pair of doubles and Smith hit a second triple in game two.
On Friday, the Chargers couldn’t survive a pair of slugfests, banging out 16 hits in a game one loss. Matt Dekundy (St. Paul High School, Ontario) had a three run homer, Smith had a pair of doubles and three RBI’s in the game.
Game two saw the Chargers bang out 10 more hits but couldn’t stop the Jets from scoring in the loss. Tony Hogan (Roncalli High School) had a pair of doubles for the Chargers.
