First H1N1 clinic moves smoothly

By Rusty Nixon Correspondent
PLYMOUTH — For most it is a strange sight to see. Literally hundreds of children, lined up down the block from an elementary school hoping to get a shot.
That was the unlikely scene at Washington School in Plymouth last night as The Marshall County Health Department held its first H1N1 flu shot clinic. In spite of the large numbers that turned out and the trickle of vaccine into the county, the department didn’t have to turn anyone away. Everyone who came received an inoculation.

PLYMOUTH — The Marshall County Sheriff’s Office released information Tuesday night concerning a serious accident involving two vehicles at 4:40 pm. Tuesday.
A caller reported a vehicle had struck a utility pole and three of the four occupants were ejected from the vehicle, and a fourth occupant was trapped inside.
When emergency personnel arrived at the scene at the intersection of Queen and 7th Road, they learned that two vehicles were involved.

According to a news release issued by Deputy Matt Brown, it appeared that the passenger car (1996 Buick) struck a truck (1998 Chevy Truck) and then hit the utility pole. The bed of the truck was severed from the cab and was wrapped around the utility pole. The car struck the pole on the driver’s side front door and also wrapped the pole.
The truck continued to travel approximately 50 to 75 yards through a field to the north before coming to rest facing south.
One passenger in the car had to be extricated. The two occupants of the truck were still in the vehicle when emergency help arrived. According to Brown’s report, the driver was not trapped, but was unable to exit the vehicle due to his injuries. The passenger in the truck was trapped inside between the seat and the dashboard.
All occupants of the passenger car were eventually flown to Memorial Hospital in South Bend. Both occupants of the truck were eventually flown to Parkview Hospital in Fort Wayne.
Brown said it appeared the passenger car was traveling west on 7th Road, ran the stop sign at Queen Road at a high rate of speed, and struck the truck which appeared to be traveling north on Queen Road.
Assisting in the Marshall County polie was the Plymouth Fire and EMS, Walkerton EMS and the LaPaz Police Department.

Update

Marshall County Sheriff's Deputy Matt Brown has released the names of the six people injured in yesterday's crash at Queen and 7th Roads.
Brown said the driver of the white, 1996 Buick was 18-year-old Jared Seese of Hamlet. His passengers were James Bellerose II, 21, of Walkerton, Kevin Henderson, 18, of Grovertown and James Bailey, 20, of Plymouth.
Brown reported that Seese's car struck a 1998 Chevy truck, driven by 52-year-old Steve Masterson of Plymouth. His passenger was 31-year-old Kisha Beerwart of Plymouth.
Around noon Wednesday, Brown said two occupants of the four total in Seese's vehicle were in critical condition and two are in stable condition. He did not state what condition Seese was in.
