U.S. 6 to close for work on new bypass

September 11, 2012

MARSHALL CO. — Drivers who regularly travel U.S. 6 between U.S. 31 and Lilac Road will need to take a different route beginning September 17.
This section of the road will be closed for six days, from September 17-22 to allow for construction on the new U.S. 31 bypass.
Matt Deitchley, media relations director for INDOT, advised Monday that the official detour route from U.S. 31 will be U.S. 30 East to S.R. 331, and back to U.S. 6.
“The reason for the closure is that crews will be pile driving piers for the new U.S. 31 project.,” said Deitchley via email Monday. “This involves massive heavy machinery and would be dangerous for drivers traveling in the area.”
The entire project in the U.S. 31/U.S. 6 area will not be complete until 2014.
