United Way has reason to celebrate

January 18, 2011

2010 Goal: $450,000 Currently 95%

PLYMOUTH — An ambitious goal has led to a celebration for the United Way of Marshall County.
This year’s campaign chose to increase their goal from the previous year in spite of economic indications.
“It was an ambitious goal and we’re currently at 95 percent,” said Director of the Marshall County United Way Jennifer Maddox. “We very optimistic that we’re going to reach our goal. We’ve seen huge generosity during this campaign – an increase in current donors and many new donors.”
The bottom line of the campaign is a positive outlook for the whole county.
“It was an encouraging campaign,” said Maddox. “Everywhere we’ve been there has been some feeling of relief. Some businesses are getting new orders, some are hiring. There is a feeling that things may slowly be coming back and a feeling of some optimism for the future. We have a real reason for celebration.”
In that spirit that optimism the United Way will be celebrating this year’s campaign with their donor and volunteer recognition dinner on Feb. 3 with a buffet dinner beginning at 5:30 p.m and a silent auction during the evening.
“We want to honor all our donors and volunteers who’ve made this year’s campaign so successful,” said Maddox. “We’ve had a lot of generous donations for the auction. The proceeds from the silent auction will complete the current campaign.”
Among the items up for bids will be something unique to the United Way yearly dinner.
“We have the ‘Ledbetter’ trip,” said Maddox. “The winning bidder and 20 guests will have a day on Lake Maxinkuckee on the Culver Academies tall mast sailing ship. That’s a once a year trip that is given only to the United Way each year. It’s a really very wonderful day on the lake.”
Christos Banquet Center in Plymouth is the site for the dinner that begins at 5:30 p.m on Feb. 3.
