Uceny rated 8th in nation as 2014 opens

January 2, 2014

The year 2013 was a rough one for Morgan Uceny. But the Plymouth native is still one of the Top 10 milers in America.
So says Track & Field News magazine, where Uceny is ranked No. 8 in the nation in the women’s 1,500-meter run.
The magazine’s annual year-end rankings were released Monday.
Uceny, a Plymouth High School graduate, reached the finals of the women’s 1500 at the London Olympics in 2012. But it has been a rough road since then, as she dealt with a series of injuries and a sub-par performances on the European track circuit this past season.
Uceny moved her training base from southern California to England a year ago, but has since decided to return to the United States.
Uceny’s long-time rival, Jenny Simpson, is ranked No. 1 in the 1,500 and 5,000 both.
Brenda Martinez holds down the No. 2 spot in the women’s 1,500. High School phenom Mary Cain is ranked third.
