Two die after crash on U.S. 6 and Miami Road

BREMEN — A married couple from South Bend died as a result of an accident they were involved in Thursday morning at the intersection of U.S. 6 and Miami Road.
Charles Avery, 80, was killed instantly after driving southbound on Miami Road after he pulled into the path of a semi truck westbound on U.S. 6.
A passenger in Avery's car, his wife Virginia, was flown to Memorial Hospital of South Bend after being transferred to Community Hospital of Bremen, where she later died from her injuries. The accident was investigated by the Indiana State Police. Marshall County Deputy Coroners Les Trump and Cassidy Feldhaus were assisted at the scene by Marshall County Coroner, Bill Cleavenger.
Darrel D. Crooks, 52, of Rockville, the driver of the semi, was taken to St. Joseph Regional Medical Center/Plymouth, but did not sustain major injuries.
