Triton shoots past Plymouth

December 1, 2010

PLYMOUTH — Just consider Clay Yeo Triton's one-time not-so-secret weapon off the bench.
Bumped from the starting lineup following a weekend bout with illness, the 6-foot-5 super sophomore erupted for 20 of his game-high 25 points in the second half and ripped down four rebounds to lead the Class A No. 2 Trojans to a 55-37 boys basketball win over Plymouth at The Rock Tuesday.
"We thought we'd give (Plymouth) the element of surprise," Triton head coach Jason Groves joked. "I'm sure they weren't expecting (Yeo) to do anything off the bench.
"He had the flu this weekend," Groves, turning serious, said. "He lost 10 pounds between Friday and Saturday. He did a great job coming off the bench. He's so athletic and so long that he creates matchup problems, both offensively and defensively. He's having a good time, but he's still a humble kid."
