Triton holds open meeting for project

BOURBON — The Triton School Board held a special session Thursday to allow the public to receive information on two proposed projects for the school corporation as well as hear how the funding for the projects has been established.
However, only one patron attended the entire meeting and only one other attended for a few minutes.
Area residents will have a second opportunity to hear the particulars of the projects and funding at the regularly scheduled school board meeting Monday, Oct. 11.
The majority of the projects concern heating and cooling unit replacements along with controls.
The board members, along with elementary Principal Jeremy Riffle and Jr.-Sr. High School Assistant Principal Bob Ross, used the time to gather information from Curt Pletcher of Umbaugh and Associates.
Pletcher said Project I will be funded by a Qualified School Construction Bond (QSCB) and monies from the corporation’s Capital Improvement Fund. According to Pletcher, hard construction costs are estimated at $1,816,400; soft costs (engineering fees) at $95,600; and costs of issuance at $63,437 making the total come to just under $2 million. The first mortgage from QSCB will be for $1,951,537. The corporation will use $23,000 of Capital Improvement Funds.
A second project is estimated to cost $1,995,000. Funding will come from Tax Exempt Bonds. Hard costs for the project are estimated at $1,834,925; soft costs, $96,575; and issuance costs, $63,500.
Pletcher estimates that the tax rate impact per $100 assessed value will be $0.2114. As an example, Pletcher indicated that a home with a market value of $100,000 would realize an annual tax impact of $69.23. Farmland assessed at $1,290 per acre could see an impact of $2.73, according to Pletcher.
An Oct. 5 meeting to set common wage for the projects was held. Wages were set for brick/block/ stone/cement mason; carpenter; interior finish technician; electrician; sound and communication; glazier; and mechanical insulator.
Additional classification wages were set for iron worker; metal building mechanic; millwright; painter; roofer; sprinkler fitter; floor coverer/setter; truck driver; operating engineer; mechanical technician (HVAC, sheet metal); pipe worker (plumber, pipe fitter; elevator constructor; and general labor.
Specific figures for each classification can be obtained at the Triton Schools Administration Office.
