Triton, CMA fall short at state

March 27, 2011

INDIANAPOLIS — Both Class A Triton and Class 3A Culver Military fell short of a state championship at the 101st IHSAA State Basketball finals Saturday at Conseco Fieldhouse in Indianapolis.
The Trojans fell 59-55 in a close battle with Indianapolis Metropolitan, while the Eagles lost to repeat Class 3A champion Washington, 61-46.
It was Triton's third trip to the state finals in four years, and although the team may have come up short against the Pumas, senior Jordan Everett won the Class A Arthur L. Trester Mental Attitude Award, following in older brother Jake Everett's footsteps after he won the award in 2008.
Both Triton and CMA led early before eventually succumbing to their opponents.
Washington took a double-digit, 35-24 lead into halftime on the strength of an 18-6 second quarter and coasted to the win behind Mr. Basketball candidate and IU recruit Cody Zeller's 20 points and 18 rebounds. Zeller also won the Arthur L. Trester Award for the 3A class.
