Three report injuries in bus crash

February 12, 2011

WALKERTON — Emergency crews spent this morning on Sycamore Road north of 1st Road tending to a school bus accident.
The John Glenn bus slid off the side of the road and hit a NIPSCO utility pole.
There were about 20 students on the bus, according to preliminary reports.
The driver of the bus, Dawne Cowgill, moved to the shoulder to allow an oncoming car to pass when the bus sank into the shoulder hitting the pole.
Three children reported minor injuries and were taken to Memorial Hospital in South Bend. There were about 20 students on the bus.
The driver of the vehicle that had passed, David Wright, stopped immediately to assist, and the driver and children were taken inside a local residence to await another bus and emergency personnel.
