ETNA GREEN — Thomas L. Hoffer, 78, of Etna Green passed away Thursday, April 18, 2013 at 9:15 a.m. at home with his family near his side.
Tom was born the son of Fred Hoffer and Gladys Hunter Hoffer, July 8, 1934 in Mishawaka.
He was a lifelong resident of Etna Green, attended Etna Green High School and was a member of the Etna Green United Methodist Church. Tom was retired from driving truck, hauling freight for Schneider Trucking in 1995. He had previously driven truck for Everly Trucking Company of Bourbon where he hauled livestock. He was an avid IU basketball fan; a fan of NASCAR and World of Outlaws. He was quite a patriot with a keen interest in politics and world history.
On June 21, 1953 he married Carol Hyndman who survives along with their four children; Debra and husband Carl Feldman of Etna Green, Jody and husband Steve Nifong of Etna Green, Rick and wife Arica Hoffer of Bourbon and Todd and Tena Hoffer of Etna Green. He was further blessed with 11 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, two sisters, Jerri Monesmith of Etna Green, Sandy Lou Cain of Glasgow, Ky. and two brothers, Andy and wife Beverly Hoffer of Warsaw, Ron and wife Dana Hoffer of New Haven and a sister-in-law Mary Hoffer of Indianapolis.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Sam Hoffer.
The family will receive friends Sunday, April 21 from 3 – 6 p.m. in Deaton-Clemens Funeral Home, 115 S. Main St., Bourbon.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday in Deaton-Clemens Funeral Home with Pastor Joe Lampton officiating.
Burial will follow in Etna Green Cemetery at Etna Green.
The family requests memorial contributions to: Etna Green United Methodist Church or Hospice and Palliative Care of Marshall County in his memory.
