PLYMOUTH — Thomas A. Cashen, 84, of Plymouth, passed away at 2:31 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 25, 2012 at Hospice House, South Bend. He was born Feb. 21, 1928 in Mishawaka to Sylvester and Vera (Vida) Cashen. Nov. 18, 1950 in LaPaz, he married the former Joan Swartz.
Mr. Cashen is survived by two daughters, Rebecca L. Pontius of South Bend and Susan J. (Charles) Smith of Simpsonville, Ky.; two sons, Thomas A. (Carol) Cashen Jr. of Fort Wayne and Daniel C. (Beth) Cashen of Leesburg; 10 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren and two brothers, Sylvester “June” Cashen Jr. of South Bend and James Cashen of Fairfield, Ill. He was preceded in death by his wife, Joan Cashen April 3, 2011 and two sisters, Mary Ellen Wallace, Therese Wilson and a brother, John Cashen.
Mr. Cashen was a lifelong area resident. He served his country honorably in the United States Navy. He started dairy farming in 1948 and was still farming up to Memorial Day 2012.
Funeral services will be held 3 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 27, 2012 at Palmer Funeral Home, 314 S. Michigan St., Lakeville. Burial will follow in Bremen Cemetery, Bremen. Friends may visit with the family from 1 to 3 p.m. Thursday.
