PLYMOUTH — Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center (SJRMC) in Plymouth held the SJHS Robotics Challenge on Saturday. Saint Joseph Health System and Granger Exploration and Robotics Studio (GEARS) have teamed up to host a four-event competition. The competition in Plymouth was the second event. 21 teams participated in the competition. The Creative Crusaders from St. Michael Catholic School was one such team to compete. They ended up in third place Saturday and fourth place overall with two more events coming soon.
The robotics program at St. Michael Catholic School began March 2017. They started doing a program in South Bend at STARBASE. STARBASE is a premier education program sponsored by the Department of Defense.
“And so then through them I found out about the LEGO competition. And so then I came back to St. Michael’s, I teach fifth grade there, and decided to try to get it going,” said St. Michael’s teacher Mary Beth Kolter.
