PLYMOUTH — With just about a week remaining until the annual Shop with a Cop auction sponsored by Plymouth FOP Lodge 195, auction items are beginning to fill the area set aside to store them.
Vera Bradley bags, framed posters, TVs, computers, children's toys, furniture, and quite a collection of gift certificates will be among the things sold in the Dec. 2 on-air auction at WTCA. Hurschel Hunter, president of the FOP, urged would-be participants to call the radio station and get a bid number before the day of the auction. This will help the bidding process go as smoothly as possible. Bidding opens at 9 a.m. Dec. 2. and will continue until all items are sold.
"From the smallest item to the largest item, you can get some good deals," said Hunter.
The auction is a major fundraiser for the Shop with a Cop trip Dec. 10. Hunter said that the goal this year is to take 342 children shopping—"that's one more than last year."
Applications to go on the shopping trip are still being accepted, and they can be picked up from the Marshall County Boys and Girls Club, WTCA, or any school counselor in the county.
"It's the people in our community that make this happen," said Hunter. "We've been doing this for 16 years. There's just something about Christmas and children."
