Shamrock Homes announces closure

March 17, 2011

PLYMOUTH — Official word was received Wednesday that a Plymouth manufacturer has shut their doors. After nearly 42 years in business, Shamrock Homes is calling it quits.
The business was first opened by Pat and Kay Flynn in 1969 and then transferred to their children Dan, Tom, Mike and Pat in the 1980s. Both Tom and Dan were currently running the company. Pat kept his interest in the company, but left for another position in July, 2009. Mike passed away in March of last year.
For many years, Shamrock Homes was an industry leader in the manufacture of HUD and various state code modular homes. They had shipped homes to dozens of states — including Louisiana after Hurricane Katrina — and Canada.
Speaking for the business, Dan Flynn said, “The current management team is saddened to make this announcement and is hopeful that the businesses in the local area will consider hiring our dedicated and currently unemployed staff.”
Flynn said the company had made calls to several manufactures in the Plymouth industrial park to ask for their displaced employees to be considered for hire.
According to Flynn, Shamrock laid off some 30 employees during the first quarter of this year.
He said, “We started calling everyone else on Monday.”
There were an additional five office employees, along with the management team, that are out of work as well.
Flynn said business in 2008 was slightly bad — then turned horrible in both 2009 and 2010. At one time, Shamrock had between 70 and 75 employees.
Flynn said, “We are grateful for the almost 42 years of being involved in this community.”

The Flynn Family have been a wonderful asset to our Community, be it through Shamrock Homes or just their personal generosity. God Bless them and all their past employees...

Owing money for advertising service etc. What about folks bought homes last couple years. Who is to handle there warranty?

I am sorry to hear the news. I worked for the Flynn brothers back in the 80's and early 90's. I cant help but think that maybe if we wouldnt have had a mildly retarded man in the white house from 2000 to 2008, a man who inherited a massive surplus from the previous administration, then maybe, just maybe, the economy would have been dealt with a little more wisely, we would never have invaded Iraq,(used intelligence instead), more jobs would have been created instead of lost, and more homes and businesses would've been kept intact. Instead of lost. A wise man would have seen then what was coming. A good man would've tried to do something to keep it from happening. Call me bitter, but I lost my house last year. And now my old friends have had to close their doors after 42 years. They may not share my political views. I dont know. But I dont care about that. I'm just sorry to hear the news.
