After losing the 2011 sectional final by a single point, the NorthWood High School girls basketball team, who lost just one player from that squad, was on a mission to regain the top spot in 2012, and rode a 13-1 first-quarter advantage to an easy 62-28 win over West Noble to capture the Class 3A sectional title. It was the 22nd sectional championship for the Black Swish under Hall-of-Fame coach Steve Neff and propelled Class 3A #3-ranked NorthWood into a showdown with Class 3A #1-ranked Norwell in next weekend’s Bellmont regional. The Panthers advanced to the final with a hard-fought 51-43 victory over Fairfield, easily the best game of the tournament.
