Girls basketball
Slabaugh, Lucchese lead Lady Lions in sectional opener
Bremen jumped out to a 17-11 lead at the first quarter break and held off Prairie Heights down the stretch for a 58-53 victory at the Lady Lions’ opener at the Class 2A Central Noble Sectional Tuesday night.
Sara Slabaugh and Ashley Lucchese put up 17 and 16 points, respectively, and Chelsea Huppert finished with eight as the Lions earned back-to-back wins for just the second time this season.
Lucchese knocked down three 3s, and Slabaugh hit two as Bremen finished with five triples in the win. The Lions also converted 17-of-23 free throws in a game which featured a combined 42 fouls and 53 charity tosses between the two teams.
They now advance to play Northern State Conference foe LaVille Friday at 6 p.m.
Prairie Heights was led by Shawna Carbone with 19 points and Kayla Freeney with 15. The team closes at 10-12.

Girls swimming
Lafferty closes season at state
After becoming the lone area swimmer to advance to the second round of the IHSAA girls state swim finals Friday night, Bremen’s Katie Lafferty closed out her junior season at the consols Saturday.
Lafferty clocked a 52.97-second finish in the 100 freestyle to place 12th at the IUPUI Natatorium.
She made the consolation cut in the seventh position in :52.66 Friday.

Bremen’s boys swim team handed visiting Concord a 96-87 loss at home at Bremen Tuesday night.

8th grade girls basketball
Lady Lions lose to Urey
The Lady Lions eighth grade basketball team suffered a loss to a tough Urey team by the score of 38-18 Thursday.  
Leading scorers for Bremen were Shannon Arndt with six points and Madison Coffel with five.  

6th grade girls basketball
Bremen 6th splits with LaVille
Bremen’s sixth grade girls basketball teams split an A-B doubleheader with LaVille by identical 22-14 scores at Bremen Middle School recently.
The Lady Lions lost the A game 22-14 as Karlee Feldman led Bremen with 10 points.
In the B game, Bremen came out on the other side of the 22-14 decision led by Ashley Jeffirs with 10 points. Rylee Hershberger and Caitlyn Myers each scored four points in the win.
