Samuelson, Lacefield lead PHS boys in track opener at LaPorte

April 5, 2013

LaPORTE — If weight events were all that mattered, Dan Samuelson and Adam Lacefield would have lifted the Plymouth boys track team to victory by themselves Thursday night.
Problem is, there’s a lot of running and jumping involved in your average high school meet. And the Pilgrims needed help in those areas.
Samuelson and Lacefield split 1-2 finishes in the shot put and discus, but Plymouth fell to LaPorte, 80-51, in a triangular meet at Kiwanis Field.
The Pilgrims also dropped a 90.5-40.5 decision to Mishawaka.
Samuelson and Lacefield did their part, though. Samuelson won the shot put with a good toss of 51 feet, 9 inches. He finished second in the discus at 127-10.
The order of finish was reversed for Lacefield. He reached 48-8 for second in the shot, but took the discus with a throw of 132-9.
They were the only Pilgrim winners in the field events. On the track, Plymouth flashed reasons to be optimistic in the short dash events.
Michael Hartman had a good day, clocking 52.08 seconds to win the 400-meter dash and placing second in the 100 at 11.45.
Taylor Fulton was second in the 200-meter dash, clocking 23.81.
Plymouth returns to action Saturday at the Culver Academies Relays.
