Safety stressed at BFMA

From left, Larry Maxson, Loren Riddle, and Keith Fraine of Bremen Family Martial Arts instruct a room full of nearly 35 women, ages 13 through senior citizens, the basics of self-defense during a class Aug. 4 set up exclusively for women.
Those in attendance learned some startling statistics such as: One in four overall and one in five college women experience a completed or attempted rape during their college years; almost 10 percent of female high school students are the victims of dating violence each year; and every two minutes, somewhere in the U.S. a woman is sexually assaulted. The women also learned memorable techniques to prevent themselves from being victimized. The men stressed Attitude, Awareness and Action and explained that each woman faced with a life-threatening situation will do one of three things, Freeze, take Flight or Fight, to survive.
Many in attendance realized that announcing to the world their plans for the day, their recent major purchases and that they will be alone on social media sites, is literally inviting criminals to take advantage of them.
