Rockies wrestle tough in loss to Elkhart Memorial

January 7, 2011

PLYMOUTH — Plymouth was facing an uphill battle against Northern Lakes Conference-undefeated Elkhart Memorial Thursday, and while they weren’t able to claim the team win, several Rockies wrestlers outworked opponents for comeback victories at The Rock.
“Memorial is extremely tough,” said Plymouth head wrestling coach Bob Read. “We knew we were outgunned. We’ve got some kids still out of the lineup... so we knew that it was going to be tough, but I thought we battled as hard as I’ve seen for quite awhile, in the midst of knowing it was going to be a dogfight.”
The most thrilling victory of the night came at 135 pounds, where Plymouth freshman Scott Lee, facing an 8-3 deficit in the second period, scored a lateral throw and subsequent near fall on Memorial’s Chris Morris to knot the match at 8-all going into the third period. After an escape by Morris, Lee lateralled him again and was awarded another near fall for a 13-11 win.
