Rockies teaming with WTCA for auction fundraiser

July 30, 2013

PLYMOUTH — The crisp weather is pointing towards fall and football, but if football is close, the WTCA Rockie Football auction is closer.
Each year Plymouth High School football takes a day on the radio at AM 1050 to raise money for the team. This year’s event is set for Aug. 2 and parent organizers of the event — Tonda Ellis and Tracey Peters — are ready to go.
“People have been really generous,” said Peters of this year’s auction items. “Almost unbelievably so. All I had to do was ask and people gave.”
“The people of this community have really stepped up to help,” said Ellis. “It has really been an awesome year.”
Bidders are encouraged to call WTCA (574-936-4096) and get a bid number to use when calling the station during the auction. A bid number will put all your contact information in ahead of time and allow you to simply call, state your number, the item you are bidding and the amount. Items will be up for bid from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and run the gamut.
“We have everything from $5 gift certificates to trips,” said Peters.
“Last year we raised just short of $9000,” said Ellis. “This year we’re hoping we can raise $10,000.”
All money raised from the auction goes to equipment, team meals after away games and the team’s senior trip.
Some items up for bid include college credits from Ancilla College, a trip provided by Oliver Ford, tickets to Indiana Beach and for the adventurous a hot air balloon ride, a power parachute ride and sky diving.
Also up for bid will be sideline passes at a Plymouth football home game, and some lucky bidder will be taking a seat next to WTCA’s Tony Ross during a radio broadcast for the Rockies.
There will also be a multitude of coupons and gift certificates for food items, household goods, fix it materials, electronics and instruction at Jana’s Gymnastics and Family Tae Kwon Doe.
The team will also hold its annual food fundraiser the following weekend — Aug. 9 – when they will be serving prime rib sandwiches from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tickets are available from team members.
