Rockies dominate at sectional
PLYMOUTH — The last time Rochester and Plymouth faced off at a wrestling tournament, the Zebras edged out the Rockies by just 6.5 points. Saturday’s sectionals weren’t even close.
Plymouth flipped the script on Rochester at its home sectional at The Rock, repeating as sectional champion by a comfortable 258-202.5 margin over the rival Zebras. Tippecanoe Valley was third with 145 points, Culver Academies placed fourth with 134, Bremen was fifth with a score of 125, Warsaw finished sixth with a 117.5 score, Triton was seventh with 81 points, Culver Community was eighth with 81 points, and Wawasee and Caston rounded out the field at the start of the 76th Annual IHSAA Tournament.
“Coming in we really thought Rochester was in the driver’s seat because of having six number one seeds, and we had two,” said Plymouth head wrestling coach Bob Read. “But we knew that we were in it if we could get all of our kids to score. I’ll tell you what, they all came to wrestle.
We knew that it would be a dogfight, but it was a good last two rounds for us.”
