MISHAWAKA — Robert W. Longenecker, age 60, of Mishawaka, passed away Saturday Feb. 16, 2013 at 11:13 a.m. in his residence.
He was born Nov. 5, 1952 in Warsaw to John W. and Pattie (Lynch) Longenecker.
Robert graduated from Warsaw High School in 1971. He was in track, football, basketball and he sang in the choir. He was a U.S. Army veteran serving from 1978 to 1982 and his MOS was Nuclear Weapons Electronics Maintenance. He was very proud and honored to serve his country. He was an engineer for Solvay Automotive in South Bend. He was in the South Bend area since 1982.
He was a member of the South Bend American Legion Post and the Calvert Rod and Gun Club of South Bend.
Besides having a hardy sense of humor Robert enjoyed fishing, camping, golfing, sprint car racing and college football and loved to barbecue.
Robert is survived by his mother Pattie Longenecker of Warsaw; two daughters Jessica L. Longenecker of Mishawaka and Carly K. Longenecker of Culver; one son Adam R Longenecker of Plymouth; two grandchildren Caleb and Regan; two brothers Michael (and spouse Peggy) Longenecker of Warsaw and John P. (and spouse Angie) Longenecker of San Diego, Calif. and his companion Carol Moore of Osceola. He was preceded in death by his father and grandparents.
A private graveside service and burial with Military honors will be held at a later date.
Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery.
