Rise and Roll now in Nappanee

NAPPANEE — At the new Rise and Roll bakery of Nappanee, the tantalizing aroma of baked goods drifts toward the parking lot and lures guests through the doors long before they make their first purchase.
Once inside, it’s evident that the customers are well aware of what lies before them, as the “word of mouth” concept is well practiced in more ways than one. Shoppers are beaming, bags of goodies are sailing through the doors, and store owner Orvin Bontrager and his staff are cheerily doing their best to keep up.
Folks have come to regard the Rise and Roll name as synonymous with some of the finest, most delectable bakery products in the region. Many have become familiar with the brand by way of their Middlebury location, or through purchasing items at various outlets throughout Elkhart County.
With this new store, located at the former Henschen Oil site at the corner of S.R. 19 and C.R. 50 just north of Nappanee, guests have been effusively expressing the notion that they are thrilled to welcome the shop to the Wa-Nee community. Virtually everyone who passed through the cozily-decorated building had kind words for the workers, as was observed during a recent visit on, appropriately enough, “National Doughnut Day.”
“I’m so glad you’re here,” one customer said with a smile as her purchases were totaled and readied for sale. “It’s so much nicer coming here than having to drive all the way to Middlebury.”
Another patron raved, “I’m totally addicted to the cinnamon-caramel doughnuts. I don’t know what it is about the combination of those two flavors, but it’s just magical.”
Yet while Rise and Roll is mostly renowned for pastries and other baked goods, there are other novelties to sample as well, whether visitors wish to stop and sit for a spell, or whether they’re on the run and want to take advantage of the “to go” feature.
The store includes an impressive inventory of jams, butters, syrups, and similar condiments, along with salty snacks, nuts and brittles, candies, and noodles. There are countless varieties of pies, breads, doughnuts, cookies, and bite size sweets, and there is even a selection of gluten-free products for customers with specific dietary concerns.
Rise and Roll has a lunch counter, where guests can be seated while indulging in savory sandwiches, subs, and wraps. There are many types of deli meats and cheeses available as well, for those who would like to recreate the taste experience at home.  Lunch items are sold between 10:30 a.m. and 3 p.m.
For those who’d like to stop by the new store and see firsthand what Rise and Roll has to offer, the store is open weekdays and Saturdays from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. There is also a “walk-up” window where shoppers can purchase items, and it is open from 4 to 9 p.m. during the week, and until 8 p.m. Saturdays. The shop is closed Sundays.
