NorthWood wins, Bremen takes 2nd at home invite
Bremen went 3-0 in pool play before falling in two sets to NorthWood in the championship match at the Bremen Volleyball Invitational Saturday.
The Lady Lions lost 25-23, 25-12 to the Panthers after reeling off wins over South Bend Riley (25-19, 25-12), Adams (26-24, 25-13) and the Elkhart Blue Blazers (27-25, 25-20).
Culver Girls Academy finished 2-1 with a pair of wins over John Glenn and Triton before losing to eventual tourney champion NorthWood in pool play, while Triton was 1-2 with losses to CGA and NorthWood, and Glenn finished 0-3 on the day.
Bremen was led by Brooke Baker’s 34 kills with four aces and 28 digs on the day. Chelsea Huppert recorded 12 kills with four aces, and Cassie Sears recorded 16 kills with seven blocks. Brooke Fitch finished with 23 digs and four aces, and Sabrina Gilley led the Lions in setting with 74 assists.
NorthWood was paced by Hannah Stump’s 34 kills, Jana Yoder’s five blocks to go with 16 kills, Savannah Bley’s balanced 28 kills and 20 digs, Allie Mattingly’s 84 assists and 26 digs, and Maddie Schwartz’s 43 digs.
Katy Bjornson led Culver Girls Academy with 31 kills and 15 digs, while Torrie Christlieb finished with 15 kills and six aces, and Abby Jeffirs recorded 12 kills, seven aces and 22 digs. Paige Baldacci set 65 assists and served up four aces, and Sarah Boland finished with 11 digs and five aces.

Argos rallies past Hamilton Heights
Argos rallied to beat Hamilton Heights 3-1 after falling a goal behind early a boys soccer match at home Saturday.
Taylor Ogle knotted the match at 1-1 with a PK in the eighth minute, and Sean Mullaney scored the go-ahead in the 24th minute.
Dominic Cataldo finally put the game out of reach on a Damon Binkley assist in the 78th minute.
Argos outshot Hamilton 17-3, but Palmer Morris made 14 saves in goal for the visitors to keep them in the game.
Jacob Mechling notched two saves as the Dragons improved to 12-1.

CMA tops Trinity
Luther Jacobs scored twice in a span of less than seven minutes, and Culver Military beat host Trinity 3-1 in South Bend.
Ale Abaunza opened the scoring in the 11th minute to give the Eagles an initial 1-0 advantage, but Kevin Ackerman nullified the goal on a penalty kick in the 28th minute.
CMA outshot Trinity 13-2 in the win. Austin Sheldon finished with two saves in goal for the Eagles, and Tim Pingel finished with 10 saves for the hosts.

Culver Girls Academy lost a close 1-0 contest with visiting Fort Wayne Canterbury in a girls soccer match at the Academies.
Olivia Fox finished with five saves in goal, and Gabri Switaj managed three to keep the Lady Eagles in the game as they were outshot 10-5.
Rachel Hoagburg’s scored the game-winner for Canterbury.

7th grade football
Lincoln 7th wins
The seventh grade Rockies football team traveled to Wawasee Thursday night and came out as 12-6 winners.
The game-winning score came on 70-yard punt return by Zane Devault.
The team moves to 4-2 with the win. The Rockies are back in action Tuesday night at Whitko Middle School.
Lady Chargers fall to Kellogg
Battling through illness and injury, the Ancilla volleyball team dropped a conference match to Kellogg Community College, 25-23, 19-25, 20-25, 14-25. The Lady Chargers’ record is now 10-7 and 2-3 in the MCCAA.
Kaylia Richardson led the attack with 14 kills and Hayley Mavrick added 11 kills. Kristen Trudell had 37 assists. Kelly Duke had 20 digs, and Keri Friend added 19.
Ancilla struggled with 30 hitting errors in the loss.
The Chargers host conference opponent Jackson Community College on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m.
