Girls golf
Consistent Bremen beats NSC foe LaVille
Laura Davis and Kailyn Weiss turned in dual 51s to lead Bremen, and the Lady Lions handed LaVille a 208-273 loss in a Northern State Conference girls golf match-up on the front nine of the Lady Lions’ home course at Sprig O’Mint Monday.
Kayleigh Daily shot a 52 to finish close behind Davis and Weiss, while Kaylin Worthington carded a 54 as Bremen’s top four golfers all finished within three strokes of one another. The Lions moved to 4-1 in dual meets this season.
Shayla Eggert led LaVille with a competitive 55 at Sprig, while Tana Newkirk turned in a 64, Whitney Brown carded a 71, and Melissa Hall came in in 83 for the Lady Lancers, who continue searching for a win at 0-7 on the year.
Bremen will play a three-way meet with Tippecanoe Valley and Triton at Mill Creek Wednesday, while the Lancers won’t play again until they take on Concord next Monday.

Girls soccer
Lancers shut out Lions
Four different Lady Lancers scored second-half goals, and Abbie McBride recorded 13 saves to preserve a 4-0 shutout of the Lions on the road at Bremen Monday.
Jesse Feitz finally broke through in the game’s 48th minute to break a 0-0 stalemate and put LaVille up 1-0. She assisted on an Elaina Ruiz goal in the 66th minute, and Heather Roder and Nina Zeiger both scored late goals for the Lancers, who outshot Bremen 23-13 for the Northern State Conference win.
Shayna Graverson made 19 saves in goal for Bremen, but it wasn’t enough for the Lions, who took their first loss of the season.
Bremen will host John Glenn in another NSC match Wednesday, while LaVille plays at the Culver Academies Thursday.

Volleyball
Culver downs South Central
Culver Community won a hard-fought match on the road at sectional foe South Central (Union Mills) Monday, 25-21, 25-16, 26-28, 26-24.
Samantha Howard led the team in attacking with nine kills and an ace to complement a strong defensive showing with 20 digs. Aspen Kitchell put away eight kills with an ace and eight assists in another balanced effort for the Lady Cavaliers, who moved to 3-3 this season.
Culver will continue its stretch on the road with a match at LaCrosse Wednesday.

Argos loses close battle with Riley
Argos volleyball lost to South Bend Riley Monday in close sets of 25-19, 21-25, 26-24, 29-27.
Hannah Daugherty led the Lady Dragons in serving with six aces and a 25-of-33 effort, while Annika Schmit had 23-of-30 serving with an ace. Cassie Speirs led the team in blocking with four solo blocks and 8-of-9 blocking, and Libby Moyer had 6 of 10 blocks with three solo blocks.
The Dragons slipped to 0-4 with Monday’s result.
Argos’ JV won its match, 25-14, 23–25, 15–12.
Argos will travel to Lakeland Christian Academy Friday.

Boys tennis
St. Joe blanks Bremen
Bremen fell 5-0 to perpetually strong South Bend St. Joseph’s at home at DeSantis Courts Monday.
The Lions were competitive at all five courts despite the lopsided team score. Austin Huff and T.J. Bayer split sets with Patrick Bruneel and Nick Minaudo on the 1 doubles court, claiming a 6-2 second-set victory after a narrow 7-6 loss in the opener and eventually succumbing 6-2 in the rubber set.

Men’s golf
Carmichael dethrones Whitmire at Plymouth Country Club Championships
Rob Carmichael unseated defending champion Brandon Whitmire 2 & 1 in the Championship Flight finals to win the 2011 title at the Plymouth Country Club Championships over the weekend.
Jan Starr defeated Sue Payne when Payne was forced to concede due to injury on Hole 13 to give Starr the Women’s Gross Division championship, while Cyndi Langdon won the Women’s Net Division with a 77.
John Oliver, Jr. handed Jim Galt a 4 & 3 defeat to win the Men’s First Flight Finals, while Bob Danielson won the Second Flight, Dale Cramer won the Third Flight, and Ken Kiel won the Fourth Flight at the event.
