Girls golf
Lady Pilgrims open season
Plymouth’s girls golf team opened up its 2012 season with a seventh-place finish at the 12-team Lafayette Harrison Invitational at Battleground Golf Club Monday.
The Lady Pilgrims carded a team score of 374 led by senior Emily Berger’s 87. Fellow upperclassmen Lauren Rearick and Heather Schrome carded respective scores of 92 and 97, while freshman Morgan Oberley put in Plymouth’s fourth score with a 98 for the day.

Men’s golf
Lake City Bank Cup
Drew Westafer, Rob Carlson, Mark Feldman and Dave Goebel won the most recent Lake City Bank Cup Series event at the Plymouth Country Club over the weekend. The event was a three-net best ball/ yellow ball competition. Finishing tied for second were the team of Matt Wiess, Bob Danielson, Bob Lappin and Eric Hestad and Greg Renz, Tom Condon, Tom Flynn and Trent Newcomb. Fourth place finishers were Art Vanick, Cliff Myers, Darren Scott and Ted Decker, and proximity winners were Myers, Lappin, Bill Palumbo, John Wendel and John Hampton.

Fishing
Dittmer edged out for 2nd at Wawasee
North Liberty’s Jason Dittmer and teammate Dave Eggers were narrowly edged out for second place with a five fish weight limit of 10.73 pounds at the Farm Bureau Bass Tournament at Wawasee over the weekend. Dittmer and Eggers lost out to the second-place team of Greg Anderson and Jeff Dever, whose largest bass outweighed Dittmer’s and Eggers’, and both finished behind tourney winners Jason Weirics and Ken Baxter. Rich Patton of Plymouth and Dave Morrow of Knox placed fifth at the event with 10.71 pounds, meanwhile.
With their second-place finish Anderson and Dever moved into the season points lead with 261 points ahead of North Liberty’s Andy Buss and partner Steve Prang, who slipped into second with 252 points.
The next tournament in the Indiana Farm Bureau Insurance Tournament Series is Aug. 25 at Lake Manitou in Rochester. For additional information contact Mike Goins at 574-298-0208.

Racing
Steve Stacy finishes 2nd in South Bend
Plymouth’s Steve Stacy and Rich Boal and Walkerton’s Mike Tutino finished in order in second through fourth place in the late model 50-lap race ahead of North Liberty’s Mike Verduin in sixth at the South Bend Motor Speedway last weekend. Plymouth’s Jeff Stetler finished fifth in the street stocks race, while Boal also placed sixth in the sportsman 40-lap feature driving his R&B Company special.
In the front wheel drive race, Walkerton’s Jack Hurford was fourth, Sean Stuart of North Liberty placed eighth, and Kyle Odell of Plymouth was ninth. Michael Ferrera of Walkerton won the first heat of the division, while North Liberty’s Addison Davis was third in the second heat.
